Routine Eye Care

Eye Exam in Knoxville

Regular eye exams are a valuable tool for maintaining the health of your eyes by detecting and preventing disease. Children should have regular eye checkups to ensure the proper development of their vision and prevent any interference with academic achievements. Older adults are often at higher risk for eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts.

All patients can benefit from examinations that test vision and screen for disease. The most common eye conditions diagnosed during an eye exam involve refractive errors that cause blurry vision for patients. These conditions affect millions of people in the United States and often get progressively worse as patients age. Fortunately, refractive errors can be easily treated to let patients enjoy clear vision at all distances.

What to Expect During an Eye Exam

Routine eye exams usually take about an hour, depending on the doctor, number of tests and complexity of tests required to fully evaluate your vision and the health of your eyes. While most people can drive safely after being dilated, some patients feel more comfortable if a friend or family member drives the automobile after the exam and dilation. If you are alone and do not feel comfortable driving after being dilated, please alert a staff member to help make arrangements for you.

In an effort to ensure that we can continue to care for our patients during the COVID-19 pandemic we have instituted a transient telemedicine program. If this is a medical emergency, please dial 911 or visit your local emergency department. Our telemedicine program has been established in order to connect you with one of our providers while we are needing to restrict access to our facilities. We realize that there is no substitute for an in-person evaluation, but we also understand that maintaining open communication between patient and provider during this season may be critical. Please complete ALL of the webform.  You will receive a telephone call at our earliest ability.
